Identification and characterization of antimicrobial metabolite from an endophytic fungus, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides isolated from Lannea corammendalica

چکیده

An endophytic fungus isolated from Lannea corammendalica displayed considerable antimicrobial activity. The fungus was identified as Colletotrichum gloeosporioides based on morphological features. The metabolite showed more activity against gram positive than gram negative bacterial pathogens. Antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus was highest with zone of inhibition 25 mm. The fungal biomass was extracted for intracellular metabolites by using ethyl acetate as solvent. The crude extract was filtered, and the filtrate was dried under vacuum at 40°C. The filtrate was analyzed for secondary metabolites. The metabolite was characterized and identified by Gas-Chromatography Mass-spectrophotometry (GC-MS) analysis due to its volatile nature. The main components were 9octadecenamide, hexadecanamide, diethyl pythalate,2-methyl-3methyl-3-hexene, 3-ethyl-2,4-dimethyi-pentane. The metabolite produced by the endophytic fungus could be an alternative source of antimicrobial agents against clinical pathogens Key word: Endophytic fungi, secondary metabolite, antimicrobial activity

Antifungal compounds produced by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, an endophytic fungus from Michelia champaca.

In this study, eight endophytic fungi were isolated from the leaves, stems and roots of Michelia champaca. The isolates were screened and evaluated for their antifungal, anticancer and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activities. All of the extracts exhibited potent activity against two evaluated phytopathogenic fungi. Chemical investigation of EtOAc extracts of the endophytic fungus Coll...

Induction of Cryptic and Bioactive Metabolites through Natural Dietary Components in an Endophytic Fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Sacc.

Grape skin and turmeric extracts having the major components resveratrol and curcumin, respectively, were used for the induction of cryptic and bioactive metabolites in an endophytic fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides isolated from Syzygium cumini. The increase in total amount of crude compounds in grape skin and turmeric extract treated cultures was 272.48 and 174.32%, respectively, compare...

Molecular Characterization of a Fungus Producing Membrane Active Metabolite and Analysis of the Produced Secondary Metabolite

Background: The majority of studies on soil Aspergillus concern the isolation and characterization of the antimicrobial compounds produced by this organism. Our previous studies indicated an isolated Aspergillus strain soil to be of interest, and this subject is further investigated here. Method:  Soil samples of various locations in Iran were collected. Extract from Aspergillus sp. culture was...

Antimicrobial Activity of Secondary Metabolites from Endophytic Fungi Isolated from Nerium Oleander L

Endophytic fungi found inside the plant tissue are endosymbionts, protecting their host from pests, pathogens, etc. Twenty eight endophytic fungi were isolated from different parts of Nerium oleander L., out of which, 54% of isolates were from flower, 39% from stem and 7% from leaf parts. Thirty six percent of the isolates showed antimicrobial activity against tested pathogens. The potential is...
